Seven new public engagement awards to music researchers
BBC Radio 3 celebrates its 60th birthday
New awards to uncover the stories of seven composers
Seven new public engagement awards to music researchers will uncover the stories of seven composers who have been featured on BBC Radio 3 programmes. The awards, which are funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), will allow researchers to work with the BBC to create new content, such as documentaries, podcasts, and online resources, that will share the composers' stories with a wider audience.
The composers who will be featured in the awards are:
- Judith Weir
- Harrison Birtwistle
- Oliver Knussen
- Thomas Adès
- Mark-Anthony Turnage
- James MacMillan
- Helen Grime
The awards are part of BBC Radio 3's 60th birthday celebrations, which will include a special focus on British music. The live performance on Afternoon Concert is the result of BBC Radio 3 and AHRC's collaboration to fund academic research into historical and contemporary British repertoire.
The awards will be announced in the autumn, and the projects will be completed by the end of 2023.
