Houston hit by deadly tornado and storms
Seven dead, dozens injured as strong storms rip through Texas city
A strong thunderstorm with hurricane-like winds ripped through Houston Thursday evening, killing at least seven people and injuring dozens more, according to local officials.
The storm, which brought with it heavy rain and hail, caused widespread damage across the city, including downed trees, power lines, and buildings. Streets were littered with glass and insulation, and several buildings were reported to have collapsed.
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in the Houston suburb of Baytown, causing significant damage to homes and businesses. The tornado was part of a larger storm system that brought severe weather to much of Texas and Louisiana.
