Wiederholt Takes Command of USAF EC

US Air Force Expeditionary Center welcomes new leader

Col. Benninghoff assumes command

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Col. Scott Charles Wiederholt assumed command of the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, during a ceremony here today.

Wiederholt, who was previously the deputy commander of the 321st Air Expeditionary Wing, Aviano Air Base, Italy, replaced Col. Daniel T. Benninghoff, who has been assigned as the vice commander of the 22nd Air Force, Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Georgia.

Benninghoff, a native of Hammond, Indiana, led the USAF EC since July 16, 2020. Under his leadership, the center played a critical role in the Air Force's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting the deployment and sustainment of Airmen around the world.

Wiederholt is a command pilot with more than 3,000 flying hours in the F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and F-35 Lightning II. He has served in a variety of leadership positions, including commander of the 354th Fighter Squadron, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, and commander of the 480th Fighter Squadron, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany.

"I am honored and humbled to assume command of the USAF EC," said Wiederholt. "This is a world-class organization with a long and proud history of supporting the Air Force's expeditionary mission. I look forward to working with the men and women of the USAF EC to continue to provide the best possible support to our warfighters."

The USAF EC is responsible for training and equipping Airmen for expeditionary operations. The center provides a variety of training programs, including air transportation, civil engineer, security forces, and medical.

The USAF EC also provides support to deployed forces around the world. The center's Air Mobility Command provides airlift and refueling support, while its Civil Engineer Command provides construction and engineering support. The center's Security Forces Command provides security support, and its Medical Command provides medical support.

"The USAF EC is a critical part of the Air Force's ability to project power around the world," said Benninghoff. "I am confident that Col. Wiederholt will continue to lead the center to new heights of excellence."
