The Boston Celtics have been crowned the 2024 NBA champions after defeating the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 in Game 5 on Monday night. The Celtics closed out the series 4-1, claiming their 18th NBA title in franchise history.

Jayson Tatum led the way for the Celtics with 31 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds. Jaylen Brown added 24 points, and Marcus Smart contributed 17 points for Boston. Luka Doncic paced the Mavericks with 28 points, but it was not enough to overcome the Celtics' dominant performance.

The Celtics took control of the game in the first quarter, closing the period on a 9-0 run to take a 32-18 lead. They extended their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring the Mavericks 30-21 to take a 62-39 lead into halftime.

The Mavericks made a push in the third quarter, but the Celtics responded with a 10-0 run to put the game away. Boston's defense held Dallas to just 30 points in the second half, securing the victory and the NBA championship.

The Celtics' victory marks their first NBA title since 2018 and their seventh in the past 35 years. It is also the first NBA championship for head coach Joe Mazzulla, who took over the team on an interim basis in February.
